Tania Franco Klein, Mexican, born 1990.

Klein is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist renowned for her evocative photography, GIFs, and installations that delve into the psychological nuances of contemporary life. Her work often features staged, cinematic tableaux that blur the lines between reality and fiction, exploring themes of modern anxiety, emotional disconnection, and the performative stresses of the digital age.bensmithphoto.com+6fillesducalvaire.com+6photoverse.santafeworkshops.com+6vogue.it+5yanceyrichardson.com+5yanceyrichardson.com+5

Franco Klein began her artistic journey while pursuing a BA in Architecture in Mexico City, later earning a Master's degree in Photography from the University of the Arts London. Her fascination with social behaviors—ranging from leisure and consumption to media overstimulation and the pursuit of eternal youth—deeply informs her practice. Influenced by thinkers like Byung-Chul Han and Marc Augé, she examines how contemporary societal constructs impact individual psychology.

Her acclaimed series "Positive Disintegration" (2016–2019) visualizes the emotional toll of relentless self-optimization and technological dependence, drawing inspiration from Han's "The Burnout Society." In "Proceed to the Route" (2018–2020), she uses the metaphor of GPS directives to comment on the illusion of freedom in a hyper-connected world. Her recent project, "Mercado de Sonora," shifts focus to domestic spaces, featuring her mother and grandmother to explore themes of heritage, womanhood, and inherited fears within Mexican culture.

Franco Klein's work has been exhibited internationally, including at ROSEGALLERY in Los Angeles, Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, and Les Filles du Calvaire in Paris. Her photographs are part of the permanent collections at The Museum of Modern Art in New York and The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. She has received numerous accolades, such as the Sony World Photography Awards and the Photo London Artproof Schliemann Award, and her monograph "Positive Disintegration" was nominated for the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards.

Currently based in Mexico City, Franco Klein continues to create work that resonates with universal emotions, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of contemporary existence.
