In 2001, Edition Patrick Frey published Welcome Aboard, a compilation of photographs by Swiss artist Walter Pfeiffer (born 1946) from 1980 to 2000. The book laid the foundation for his rise from contributor to gay zines to world-renowned fashion photographer for luxury brands. In 2023, Chez Walti provides a new collection of his work from 2000 to 2022, showing how Pfeiffer fine-tuned and renewed his photographic gaze: absorbing influences from the current zeitgeist while remaining unmistakably himself in both his personal and commissioned work. Pfeiffer's light, witty touch and unfailing eye for beauty are the hallmarks of his images of gorgeous guys and cheeky gals, lush still lifes and bucolic landscapes, chic fashion and bare skin. Chez Walti catapults viewers into Walter Pfeiffer's weightless parallel universe, whose magic had only intensified since Welcome Aboard was published.

Instinctive, spontaneous and unclassifiable, Walter Pfeiffer's images are an anthem to youthfulness, and not only that of the mind. This may explain why, in spite of a monopolizing international success, he accepted ECAL's invitation to run the 2014/15 Workshop, and enjoyed sharing his experience with the emerging photographers of the Lausanne school. Rather than teaching a technical class, he initiated a series of exchanges on the notions of aesthetics, exposing his philosophy of the trade and sharing his protocol on image production (from shooting to editing). Walter Pfeiffer invited students to explore his world without ever imposing a specific goal. Collected under the title Choli Cholie - an allusion to a recurring remark by the artist -, the images produced by the students are both a reference and a tribute to the work of the famous photographer.
