While this edition is one of several reprints of the 1932 iconic book, its framed black background layout gives the book a new dimension.

The original 1932 Paris de Nuit, the photogravure images were printed as true full-bleed directly to the page edges (trimmed right through the wire spiral binding), without borders or margins.

The layout in modern trade editions, like this one, is fundamentally different. The "Book-within-a-Book" Layout: Instead of running full bleed to the physical paper edge, these reprints float a scaled representation of the original 1932 full-bleed page inside a framed black background (or black mat/margin border). The black background acts as a surrounding dark frame or matting on the paper, distinct from the original 1932 design where the gravure image itself was the entire page.

This edition otherwise contains the exact same 62 photographs in the same sequence as the 1932 Arts et Métiers Graphiques original.
